THE UASA – SANOFI AVENTIS PRIZE
Presented every second year at the UASA Biennial
Congress if a suitable recipient is identified and meets
the required standard.
The Prize will be R30, 000.00 to be used to further
urological knowledge and expertise such as an overseas
congress or course.
The award is for Urological Excellence and Outstanding
Service in Furthering the Practice of Urology in South
Africa.
The candidate must be a member of UASA, in active
academic or private practice. EXCO has the power to
accept or reject nominations without supplying reasons
and will be the sole decision maker.
Nominations to be made to the Secretary of the Executive
Committee of the UASA, prior to the Business Meeting at
the Biennial Congress.
THE STORZ PRIZE
Every two years Karl Storz Endoscopes award a prize to
fund an International visit to a Urological Congress or
to a leading department to an individual in the field of
Urology.
The award focuses on postgraduate academic achievements.
Applications should include the following:
1. Complete curriculum vitae with date of birth as well
as date of registration
2. Post-graduate academic record and qualifications
including prizes or medals
3. List of publications:
a) Journals
b) Papers read
c) Posters exhibited
d) Original research both clinical and/or basic
e) Diagnostic or surgical innovations contributed
Applicants must be:
1. A urologist registered with the Health Professions
Council of South Africa
2. A member of UASA
3. A registered Urologist for less than 10 years
4. Younger than 45 years of age
5. A South African citizen resident in South Africa
Adjudication is made by the Executive Committee of UASA.
The award can only be won by the same person once and
the Executive Committee has the right to withhold the
award if the applications are not of a suitable
standard.
Applications must be submitted to the Secretary of the
UASA two weeks prior to the Biennial Congress.
THE VAN BLERK PRIZE
1. Awardee to be elected by the Executive Committee of
the UASA.
2. Candidates will be registrars in training or junior
consultants in Urology within 3 years of registration as
a specialist, not necessarily in academic practice.
3. The prize is for an outstanding contribution to that
specific congress as a presented paper, or poster
exhibition.
4. Candidates must submit their entries to the Secretary
of the UASA in a completed format either for publication
or in the form of a reprint of the published article
prior to the congress.
5. Papers or Posters previously presented at any S.A.
Congress (of any discipline) will not be considered.
6. The prize consists of a Medal and R5000.00
THE BARD PRIZES
For a Registrar or Medical Officer training in Urology
At the UASA Biennial Congress
1) The best Paper / Presentation R5000 and a Medal
2) The best Poster R5000 and a Medal
Adjudication is performed by the Executive Committee of
UASA or a person(s) appointed by the Executive
Committee.
THE DISCOVERY HEALTH PRIZE
For the best presentation at the biennial congress by a
South African Urologist; no longer in training.
Prize of R5000.00
